Sherman Joseph Orensten, age 79, of Ashland WI, died peacefully on a Monday morning after a blessed weekend surrounded by family and loved ones.

 

He owned and operated Chicago Iron & Supplies, in Ashland.

 

Sherman charmed those around him with his magnetic personality, wits of steel, and heart of gold. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a Life Member of the Ashland Elks Club. He enjoyed his bowling league. An amicable character, Sherman naturally reached out to new people and yet he will be remembered for his close, loving relationships with family and old friends. His hearty laugh continues to resonate with those close to him.

 

He was survived by sons, Eddie (Zippy), Lloyd (Cindi) and Marty; a daughter, Myrna; granddaughters, Naomi and Rebekah and grandsons, David (Sommer), Josh and Nathan; his special friend, Clarice Zuckman; and a sister, Rose Hecker-Rosenfield.

 

He was preceded in death by wife, Rieva Davis Orensten; his mother, Hannah and father, Keva; a brother, Sam Orensten; and sisters, Ruth and Pearly Orenstein and Dorothy Woldorsky.

 

The Funeral service was held June 14, 2006 at Hodroff-Epstein Memorial Chapel in Minneapolis, MN. Following the service, interment was in Duluth, MN, at Tiferet Israel Cemetery, located on Howard Gnesen Road. A Memorial Luncheon followed at Temple Israel, 1602 East Second Street, Duluth.

 

Memorials are preferred to Temple Israel (Youth Fund) or Ashland Elks Club (Youth Trust Fund).

Sherman 's love for junk made it fun to own Chicago Iron & Supplies, Ashland, Wis.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Hodroff-Epste in Memorial Chapel, 126 E. Franklin Ave., Mpls. Internment will follow in Duluth at Tifereth Israel Cemetery, Howard Gnesen Rd, Duluth. Memorials preferred to Temple Israel (Uouth Fund) Hodroff-Epstein 612-871-1234.
